On September 15, a delegation led by Carlos Henrique de Carvalho, President of the Federal University of Uberlândia, and José Manoel Marconcini, head of the Instrumentation, Equipment, and Nanotechnology Research Program at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, visited GXU. Xiao Jianzhuang, President of GXU, met with the delegation and attended a discussion session. Yu Wenjin, Vice President of GXU, chaired the session and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation on behalf of GXU.

Xiao Jianzhuang welcomed the delegation. He expressed the hope that the two sides would deepen joint research in agricultural science and technology, carry out practical cooperation in crop germplasm innovation, biological breeding, smart agriculture, and other areas, jointly apply for international projects, and establish a cooperation platform for tropical agricultural innovation. He also called for advancing joint talent training, faculty and student visits, and two-way exchanges. GXU welcomes young Brazilian scholars and students to visit, pursue degrees, and conduct postdoctoral research, and will also send its faculty and students to Brazil. He proposed establishing regular and institutionalized cooperation mechanisms, promoting information exchange and research-data sharing, and inviting Brazilian experts to international academic conferences hosted by GXU to encourage academic exchange and the exchange of ideas.
Carlos Henrique de Carvalho said that the Federal University of Uberlândia is located in a region with climatic conditions similar to those of Guangxi, and that the two regions share many similarities in geographical environment and biodiversity. The two universities therefore have numerous potential areas for cooperation. The Federal University of Uberlândia hopes to jointly establish a Belt and Road international laboratory, promote student exchanges and joint training—with a particular focus on master’s and doctoral education—develop dual-degree and joint doctoral training programs, and facilitate exchanges among young researchers.
José Manoel Marconcini said that the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation has extensive crop germplasm resources and looks forward to deepening cooperation with GXU. In the next stage, it will send experts from different fields to GXU for exchanges and invite GXU faculty and students to Brazil to attend joint international conferences. The two sides will strengthen cooperation in biological breeding, sugarcane, cassava, biomass energy, and other fields, deepen their partnership, and achieve more results.
Yu Wenjin said that GXU has always remained committed to openness in education. He expressed the hope that the two sides would engage in in-depth exchanges on agricultural science and technology innovation, faculty and student visits, joint research, and platform development, and translate cooperation into concrete outcomes.

At the discussion session, the two sides exchanged views on faculty and student exchanges, platform and resource sharing, and research collaboration.
During the visit, the delegation toured GXU’s History Museum, the Sugarcane Biological Breeding Research Center of the School of Agriculture, and the Analytical and Testing Center. Tiago Gonçalves Paluma Rocha, Vice President of the Federal University of Uberlândia, delivered a special lecture for faculty and students of GXU’s School of Law as part of the university’s Overseas Distinguished Scholars Lecture Series. The lecture focused on “Internationalization of Research and Opportunities for Global Cooperation,” followed by an academic exchange.
